We all love a good selfie and our beautiful country offers some extremely photogenic New Zealand selfie spots. Aotearoa is full of stunning scenery perfect for filling your Instagram feed. Here’s a few incredible locations and hidden gems to take your selfie to the next level.

Best New Zealand selfie spots

  • Lake Tarawera Wharf

  • Cathedral Cove

  • Te Mata Peak

  • Three sisters and elephant rock

  • Castlepoint Lighthouse

Cliff walk at Rotorua Canopy Tours

First up on our New Zealand selfie spots list is an absolutely breathtaking view. High among the tress in an ancient forest is a suspended cliff walkway on the Ultimate Canopy Tour. The epic walkway puts you right out over the valley 50m below with only a single handrail to hold on to (don’t worry, your harness will keep you safe). A selfie here will look like you are floating in mid-air on a sea of green – simply spectacular!

Lake Tarawera Wharf

Lake Tarawera is another one of our beautiful New Zealand selfie spots. Capture an incredible sunrise or sunset at the end of this solitary wooden wharf. Lake Tarawera reflects the colours of the sky above and the surrounding bush-clad hills will make you feel like you’re the only person on Earth. Perfect for that ‘wish you were here’ selfie.

Cathedral Cove

Now for New Zealand selfie spots that you can only access by foot or water -  Cathedral Cove. Located on the Coromandel Peninsula is one of the best New Zealand beaches. It has a picturesque white sandy beach and an impressive rock arch. The incredible volcanic coastline and seas caves will create a selfie you'll be keen to share.

Te Mata Peak

Te Mata Peak offers panoramic 360 degree views at 399m above sea level. It’s one of the most photographed sites in the Hawkes Bay – and there’s definitely a reason why. You can drive right to the top for the perfect New Zealand selfie spots or walk around this iconic peak. You'll get a wide range of landscapes and perspectives for the ultimate selfie.

Three sisters and elephant rock

In north Taranaki along the coast are some spectacular rock formations known as the three sisters and the elephant. Unfortunately this is one of the New Zealand selfie spots that is slowly eroding away, so best to get in and take your selfie ASAP. The 25m rock formations known as the three sisters are now only two. The elephant lost his trunk to erosion in 2016 but they all still look just as spectacular! Make sure you time your trip for the beginning of low tide so you can find the perfect New Zealand selfie spots.

Castlepoint Lighthouse

The Castlepoint Lighthouse is 23m high - the tallest in the North Island. It has some perfectly positioned New Zealand selfie spots with dramatic views out to sea and along the coast. You might even be able to capture some seabirds or a fur seal in your photo.
